SpendStory Privacy Policy
Local-first expense tracking. No account required. No selling of personal spending data.
Last updated: May 26, 2026
SpendStory is a personal expense tracking and financial insight application designed to help users record expenses, review spending patterns, and manage simple financial habits. This Privacy Policy explains how SpendStory handles information and data.
1. Data Stored by the App
SpendStory may store the following information locally on your device:
- Expense records, including amount, currency, date, category, spending type, jar, cadence, and optional notes.
- Timeline anchors, memories, or personal markers that you create.
- App preferences, including language, theme, display currency, onboarding state, reminder settings, and exchange-rate settings.
- Import and export files when you choose to create or import a JSON backup.
This information is used only to provide app functionality such as expense history, reports, analytics, insights, timeline views, reminders, import/export, and local personalization.
2. Local-First Storage
SpendStory stores your spending data locally on your device using the app’s private storage unless you explicitly export or share your data yourself.
The current version of SpendStory does not require user accounts and does not operate a backend service for syncing your spending history.
3. Data Collection
SpendStory does not intentionally collect, transmit, sell, rent, or share your personal spending records with the developer or third parties.
If you choose to export your data, the exported JSON file is fully controlled by you. You are responsible for where and how you store, transfer, or share exported files.
4. Notifications
SpendStory may request notification permission if you enable spending reminders.
Notifications are scheduled locally on your device and are used only to remind you to record or review spending activity. You may disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings or inside the app where supported.
5. Import, Export, and Deletion
SpendStory allows you to:
- Export your app data as a JSON file.
- Import compatible JSON backup files.
- Delete app data from within the app where supported.
You may also remove local app data by deleting the app from your device, subject to iOS backup and restore behavior.
6. Third-Party Services
The current version of SpendStory does not include advertising SDKs, third-party analytics SDKs, or tracking SDKs.
If you enable exchange-rate features, SpendStory may request currency exchange-rate data from a third-party exchange-rate provider using standard network requests.
Exchange-rate requests do not include your personal spending records, notes, financial history, or identifiable user information.
7. Financial Disclaimer
SpendStory is a personal budgeting and expense tracking tool. It does not provide financial, investment, tax, accounting, or legal advice.
Any insights, summaries, scores, projections, or analytics shown in the app are informational only and should not be treated as professional advice.
8. Security
SpendStory relies on iOS app sandboxing and device-level protections provided by Apple.
You should protect your device using a passcode, Face ID, or Touch ID. Exported files are outside SpendStory’s control once they are saved or shared by you.
9. Children’s Privacy
SpendStory is not intended to knowingly collect information from children.
Because the app does not intentionally transmit personal data to the developer, the developer does not knowingly collect children’s personal information.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if SpendStory’s features or data practices change.
The “Last updated” date shown at the top of this Privacy Policy reflects the most recent revision.
